Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, a major supporter of all things waterfront, will speak at the event.

Event includes a generous array of cheese, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, fruit, breads, key lime pie, beer and wine.  A large format multimedia installation of images and sounds from PortSide and the harbor will bring the waterfront inside.  This show will be created by  David Bianciardi, the principal of Audio, Video and Controls (AV&C).

AV&C is a NYC based firm that provides design, engineering and system integration services to global clients with a focus on museum design, corporate communications, luxury residences and themed environments.

Proceeds from PortSide’s first fundraiser will support planning and interim programming in Atlantic Basin and shipping of the last two engine cylinders for the Whalen from Seattle.

The backstory: PortSide NewYork will soon get our first publicly accessible home, your new home on the waterfront.   The New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is negotiating directly with PortSide to create a place for us in Atlantic Basin, next to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.  This will include a berth for the Mary Whalen, a pier where we will host visiting vessels of every description, and an interior space that will house programs and interpretive spaces. Visible from PortSide will be huge cruise and container ships, gantry cranes at work, tugboats, charter, excursion and historic vessels.

PortSide auction items now up on eBay! See Portside's eBay Auction

They include: a two-hour blacksmithing class, tickets from many of the excursion and charter vessels we would like to see visiting us in Atlantic Basin, a catered dinner with waterbloggers, various opportunities to indulge your culinary appetites in Red Hook, a Morgan 24 sailboat, a one day sail out of Martha's Vineyard, a slinky cool lariat necklace, a 1916 cookstove from a Red Hook house, and the once-in-a-lifetime gantry crane tours

More auction items being added daily.

PortSide NewYork

PortSide NewYork is a young, innovative non-profit organization.  Our diverse programs are about water and the waterfront.

We plan to create waterfront access, arts and recreational boating events, jobs, historical products and policy—programs for diverse economic groups and individuals.

Our chief ambassador is a 172’ repurposed ship, the coastal oil tanker Mary A. Whalen. She serves both as our office and as a mobile cultural platform.
